The Miami High Athlete Excellence Program aims to develop the physical, mental and technical capacity of high-level athletes. Utilising industry professionals and targeted coaches throughout the course to nurture and promote the development of young athletes is key to the success of the program. Athletes will be provided with innovative opportunities and authentic experiences that ensure all students are inspired to be the best athlete they can be, now and in the future.
Course structure and overview
The Athlete Excellence Program is structured as a three-year course of study from Year 7 to Year 9 for boys and girls. The program consists of three x 70-minute lessons per week plus additional sessions outside of curriculum time. A primary focus of the Athlete Excellence Program is to develop students’ fitness and physical performance. Students will be given the opportunity to experience and develop their skill base and tactical awareness in a broad range of physical activities including a range of both individual and team sports.
Key Areas
- Elite Strength and conditioning program (Momentum sports performance)
- Pre and post testing results
- Key theory components (Components of fitness, anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, sports nutrition, methods of training, sports psychology, coaching and officiating)
- Visits to local health and sports facilities (Recovery massage centre, local gyms and fitness centres, stretching and recovery sessions)
Cost
An annual fee in addition to the school resource scheme fee is payable before a student commences in an Excellence Program and each subsequent year that the student is a part of a program. The fee for Athlete Excellence is $200 per semester.
