Important Application Information
Eligibility
To be considered for a position in an Excellence and Specialisation Program students must meet the below expectations:
Students are permitted to trial for more than one Excellence Program and must submit a written application for each program.
Students can be selected for two Excellence Programs, providing one is Academic Excellence (for example Stellar and Dance). Please note, this may affect their choices of electives.
Students can only be selected for one Specialisation Program (Ideas or AFL) with the exception of Japanese Language Proficiency as this sits outside the school timetable.
Students can be accepted into both an Excellence and Specialisation Program (for example Touch Excellence and Ideas) with the exception of Japanese Language Proficiency as this sits outside the school timetable.
Enrolment
Students not currently enrolled at Miami State High are also required to complete the relevant Enrolment Paperwork as part of the Application Process. This includes new Year 7 students.
Scholarships
Students entering the program in Year 7 and who are deemed as exceptional in their ability may be offered a scholarship for their particular Excellence Program. There is no extra application process for students to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarship positions are valid for a period of 12 months and are at the discretion of the Head of Junior Secondary and the Principal.
Position Offers
The awarding of a position in an Excellence and Specialisation Program and/or a scholarship considers the students written application, school reports and the specific program trial process. The decision of the Head of Junior Secondary and the Principal, with respect to awarding places in Excellence and Specialisation Programs and scholarships, will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Position notifications will be distributed via email.
Maintaining of Positions in Programs
Student performance is monitored regularly. Ongoing participation in Excellence and Specialisation Programs are determined through continued high performance, and, exemplarily effort and behaviour. To maintain enrolment, students must meet the expectations set out above under the Eligibility section and consistently demonstrate a high commitment to all aspects of school life. All students must embrace the school's core values of Connect, Respect and Inspire.
