About
The Miami High IDEAS Excellence Program is for students passionate about Technology, Design, Engineering, and Business. IDEAS fosters problem-solving, teamwork, hands-on tasks, and real-world problem-solving with various technologies. It aims to cultivate a global mindset, compassion, and empathy, promoting respect within the school and community.
Through an innovative curriculum, students are encouraged to reach their academic potential and become global citizens, innovators, and leaders. Incorporating Higher Order Thinking skills enhances knowledge, inquiry, innovation, and creativity, fostering reflective thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication.
Course structure and overview
The IDEAS program is a structured program that will run over three years in Years 7, 8 and 9. Students will participate in three x 70-minute lessons each week over four terms. IDEAS will have a large focus on building a student's knowledge and capacity in the areas of technology, design, engineering and business through hands on individual and group project-based tasks and assessments.
To be considered for entry into the Ideas Excellence Program, students need to have demonstrated high levels of performance in Primary School. In addition students will need to submit a written application and sit for an entrance exam made up of three strands:
- Written response
- Coding challenge
- Construction task
Program Fee
An annual fee in addition to the school resource scheme fee is payable before a student commences in an Excellence Program and each subsequent year that the student is a part of a program. The fee is $170 per semester for the IDEAS Excellence Program
