Sporting excellence - Rugby 7's (Girls)

The Miami High Rugby 7s Excellence Program aims to provide students with an Olympic and Commonwealth Games pathway. Through funded coaching and links with Gold Coast District Rugby Union, QLD Rugby and Rugby Australia, students are able to access learning experiences that enhance their opportunity for active participation and employment opportunities in rugby and other sports. 

Course structure and overview

The Rugby 7s Excellence Program consists of both a Year 7, 8, 9 combined class and a Year 10, 11, 12 combined class. All students attend three x 70-minute lessons per week plus additional sessions outside of curriculum time. 

Key Areas

  • Competition opportunities (Super Schools Cup, Gold Coast Titans Cup, QLD All Schools, a minimum of three full day and multi-day tournaments) 
  • Strength and Condition Program (Momentum Sports Performance) 
  • Sports Psychologist workshops (Summit Performance Psychology) 
  • Elite Level Rugby 7’s coaching staff and program (QLD Rugby 7’s) 
  • Student Leadership Program 
  • Key theory components (Referee/coaching certificates, video analysis and wellbeing) 
  • Representative opportunities and links (Bond Pirates, GCDRU, South Coast, Queensland Rugby Union and Griffith University)

Cost

An annual fee in addition to the school resource scheme fee is payable before a student commences in an Excellence Program and each subsequent year that the student is a part of a program. Rugby 7s: $200 per semester.
