The Miami High IDEAS Excellence Program caters for students who are passionate about learning in the areas of Technology, Design, Engineering and Business. IDEAS (Innovation, Design, Engineering and Service) is on offer for those students who excel in problem solving, working in groups, hands on tasks and solving real world problems using a variety of technologies.
IDEAS strives to develop a global mindset in our students whilst developing compassion and empathy, promoting respect within our school, the community and beyond. Students are inspired to reach their highest academic potential through an innovative curriculum that encourages them to become effective global citizens, innovators and leaders of their chosen field.
The incorporation of Higher Order Thinking skills to deepen knowledge, enable inquiry, innovation and creativity allows students to become reflective thinkers, problem solvers and confident, effective communicators and leaders.
Course structure and overview
The IDEAS program is a structured program that will run over two years in Years 7 and 8. Students will participate in three x 70-minute lessons each week over four terms. IDEAS will have a large focus on building a student’s knowledge and capacity in the areas of technology, design, engineering and business through hands on individual and group project-based tasks and assessments.
Students will be provided with specialised equipment and work collaboratively with others to develop problem solving and higher order thinking skills. Students will work with specialised teachers to solve real world problems and develop technical solutions to these problems. Students will participate in an excursion and will be encouraged to be involved in outside STEM programs.
Cost
An annual fee in addition to the school resource scheme fee is payable before a student commences in an Excellence Program and each subsequent year that the student is a part of a program. The fee is $170 per semester for the IDEAS Excellence Program.
